Step 1 - Selecting the type of HVAC system you'd like.

So you're at the beginning of the guide.  Step #1 is figuring out what kind of system you want to have.  Notice I said what kind you "want" to have and not what you currently have.  The reason is you may not want to necessarily go back with what you currently have.  There are many variables.  You may decide on a hybrid of two of the systems.  You may decide to have different systems for different parts of your home.  We will go through each system type, and you can decide what makes the most sense for your home.

Where you live...

If you live in a colder area, you're going to be looking at systems that burn fuel to create heat in the Winter.  You may not even want air conditioning.  If you live in a warmer climate, you may only want an AC system and no heat at all.  Finally, milder temperatures call for heat pumps to save money on burning gas or oil.

What is your contractor(s) recommending?

In a later step in the guide, we go over selecting a contractor.  One thing you can talk to the contractor about is the type of system they recommend.  Ask them why they recommend one versus another...
